Two people were arrested following a pursuit by law enforcement that began in Southern Shores and ended in lower Currituck County.

Currituck County Sherriff Matthew Beickert said deputies took over the chase along U.S. 158 that started near the Wright Memorial Bridge just after midnight Thursday.

Stop sticks were deployed in Jarvisburg and the suspects’ vehicle came to a stop at a gas station, where deputies ordered the man and woman to get out.

While trying to remove the driver from the vehicle, he pulled back on to Caratoke Highway with the tires flattened.

After a short, low speed pursuit, deputies were able to stop the vehicle near Grandy and arrested both occupants.

Beickert said deputies found drug paraphernalia and what is suspected to be narcotics in the vehicle.

The driver, Zachery Worley Marion, 31, is charged with resisting, delaying or obstructing an officer, fleeing to elude, careless and reckless driving and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Marion was being held at the Currituck Detention Center in lieu of $16,000 bond, and other charges are pending, Beickert said.

Chynna Areielle Thompson, 29, was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, and was in custody in lieu of $10,000 bond.
