The wild mustangs of the northern Outer Banks have yet another new addition — Bramble. The new baby is the sixth foal of the season for the herd of about 100 wild horses that roam north of Corolla.

“We aren’t 100% sure of the sex of this foal yet (we think it’s a filly…still need a closer look) but have chosen the name Bramble,” the Corolla Wild Horse Fund, which manages the herd, said in a Tuesday Facebook post. “He/she was born this morning and both baby and mom are in great shape.”

The foal’s mom is one of the mares that adopted Rosie a couple years ago when her mom died, “and we are so happy to see that she has a foal of her own now. She is an excellent aunt and mother,” the CWHF wrote.

Remember to give the new families plenty of space.

“They need quiet time to bond and we want this baby to grow up as healthy and wild as possible.”
