Another round of heavy rain is forecast to start the weekend in northeastern North Carolina, which could lead to more flooding issues along parts of the Outer Banks and inland sections.

Weak low pressure will pass just inland Saturday, dragging a cold front across the area late Saturday night.

The National Weather Service Wakefield office has posted a flash flood watch for the mainland areas between the Virginia border and Albemarle Sound, including the Currituck Outer Banks/Corolla.

A widespread one-to-two inches of rain is expected, while localized amounts of five-plus inches are possible. Given already saturated soils, localized flash flooding is possible tomorrow for much of eastern North Carolina.

Additionally, a few stronger thunderstorms Saturday could produce damaging wind gusts. A moderate risk of rip currents is forecast for Saturday for the beaches off Carova, Corolla, Hatteras Island and Ocracoke.
