Holiday fun can push blood donation to the bottom of the to-do list. Winter weather and seasonal illness can also impact the blood supply. The Red Cross needs donors to shake up their holiday plans and make giving blood a priority this season to ensure they meet the needs of patients all winter long. Currently the American Red Cross is critically low on blood supplies. Now is the time to give the gift of life this holiday season—and get a $10 Amazon gift card!
For the 5th year in a row, the Outer Banks Association of REALTORS® (OBAR) is partnering with the Holy Redeemer by the Sea Catholic Church (HRCC) for the OBX Community Blood Drive with Red Cross. The blood drive takes place Tuesday, December 13, 2022, from 10:00A-4:00P, and Wednesday, December 14, 2022, from 12:00-6:00P at HRCC (301 W Kitty Hawk Rd, Kitty Hawk, NC 27949).
They will be collecting power red and blood both days. Eligible donors with types O, B negative or A negative blood are encouraged to make a Power Red donation at this blood drive. Power Red donors give a concentrated dose of red blood cells during a single donation, allowing them to maximize their impact. During this type of donation, red blood cells are separated from other blood components, and the plasma and platelets are safely and comfortably returned to the donor.
In addition, a diverse blood supply is important! The Red Cross is requesting donations from all ethnicities because a patient is more likely to find a compatible blood match from a donor of the same race or a similar ethnic group. Right now, blood donations from individuals who are Black are urgently needed to help meet the needs of patients with sickle cell disease. Find more information at RedCrossBlood.org/OurBlood.
They recommend making an appointment to reduce wait times. Visit redcross.org, click on “Give Blood” at the top of the screen, and then select “Find a Blood Drive”, and enter “HRCC” as the “Sponsor Code”.
OBAR’s blood drive has received the “Crystal Blood Drop Award” two years in a row for raising the most units of blood during a drive. The goal is to get 200 units of blood. Please help them do so! OBAR REALTOR® members, and Community Partner/Affiliates should wear name badges or have a business card at check-in.
Please Note: If you participated in the David Pergerson Memorial Blood Drive on November 4th, you are not eligible to donate in this drive.
