To mark the one-year anniversary of Hurricane Dorian’s impacts on Ocracoke Island, the Ocracoke Interfaith Relief and Recovery Team is planning a unique hybrid benefit concert to bring visitors and islanders together while still staying far apart.
The concert will take place Sept. 5 at the Berkley Barn from 5-10 p.m., and will also be live streamed to the OIRRT Facebook page.
Tickets are available to the in-person event as $10 “time slots” to ensure COVID-19 safety by controlling the number of guests in the area at any given time.There are 25 tickets available per time slot, with each slot lasting 30-45 minutes.
The in-person portion of the event takes place outdoors, bur organizers say it will go on rain or shine. If the event does have to shift due to poor weather, the concert portion will move indoors and be entirely live streamed.
Ocracoke Alive helped secure funding for the event through the Don and Catherine Bryan Cultural Series.

Barefoot Wade
Wade McVey, commonly known as “Barefoot Wade”is a solo musician with a full band sound who has played over 1000 shows in his career. He has traveled from W. Virginia to the Caribbean, and performs energetic, fun shows for crowds of all ages.The barefoot musician has best been described as a “One-Man-Caribbean-Jam-Band”. On stage, Wade employs the use of Acoustic and Electric guitars, Bass guitars, Steel Drum, lots of various Percussion, Keyboards, and Kazoos. He is able to play these instruments simultaneously through a process known as “Loop Sampling”. This gives the aural illusion that there is more than one musician jamming on stage. His musical style combines elements of Reggae, Rock, Americana and Comedic Country blended into his own original sound.
nobody circuit
A folk rock/americana duo with over 60 years in music between them, nobody circuit is John Warren and Henry Heidtmann. Influenced by their communities, the sounds of their home state (NC), and the music of the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s, their longevity as regional musicians/performers in many line-ups attests to the powerful resilience of camaraderie, supported by commitment to racial, environmental, and humane justice issues.
Toaster Oven
Musicians Jon Lea and Adam Lavigne come together as Toaster Oven! The duo performs various eclectic rock and alternative covers, as well as originals.
Molasses Creek
For 26 years, Molasses Creek’s high-energy performances and heartfelt songwriting has brought the love of their coastal home of Ocracoke Island, NC to the stage. The band’s elegant harmonies and arrangements, stellar songwriting, blazing instrumentals, and quirky sense of humor have won loyal followers throughout the United States and around the world.
Coyote
Coyote are Marcy Brenner and Lou Castro. They write and perform songs that draw you in to their enchanting island life and extraordinary community of 1000 friends and neighbors. Their stories spark from their salty life on Ocracoke, 20 miles off-shore of the Outer Banks of North Carolina. Unexpected, honest, masterful, heartfelt, authentic. Throw a rock at a genre and you will hear it, with a Coyote twist. No matter what, you’ll be enchanted by the inevitable magic of an evening with Coyote, and whoever is playing with them.
Raygun Ruby
Raygun Ruby plays music for people who like to have fun, with a focus on 80’s and 80’s adjacent music.
Organizers are also working to have up to six vendors present for guests to browse and purchase from while enjoying the music. As of now, The Ocracoke Fig Festival/Ocracoke Preservation Society has signed on. There are other vendors in the process of filling out their agreements, and they will be announced in the near future.
