Thursday’s headlines include: North Carolina back to nearly 1,000 new daily cases of COVID-19 for the first time in two months; the latest vaccine lottery winners will be announced today while Governor Cooper visits Gates County vaccine clinic.

A NASA study says high tide will be even higher by the mid 2030s; the N.C. General Assembly is set to take up another hot topic; and it’s Shark Week EVERY week in North Carolina waters.

In sports, the Edenton Steamers head back to Tarboro tonight and The Open Championship begins in England.

And the OBX Today Weather Center calls for continued hazy, hot and humid conditions, a late day thunderstorm possible inland, highs around 91, with a moderate risk of rip currents off Frisco, Hatteras village and Ocracoke.
