John William “Bill” Daniels

John William “Bill” Daniels, 86, of Manteo, NC died Tuesday, December 22, 2020, at Sentara Hospice House in Virginia Beach, VA.

A Manteo native, Bill was born November 5, 1934, to the late Elizabeth Boggs Daniels and Amos Raynor Daniels.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Louise “Bubbles” Wescott Daniels; a daughter, Karla Farquharson; and a sister, Flora Webber.

Upon graduation from Manteo High School in 1953, Bill served his country honorably in the United States Navy. He furthered his education earning an engineering degree from Georgia Tech. In 1970, Bill returned to his hometown joining Manteo Furniture Company.

Active in his community, Bill was a former Manteo Town Commissioner, member of Manteo Lions Club and Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church, and retired as Chief of the Roanoke Island Volunteer Fire Department.

Mr. Daniels is survived by his wife, Margaret Tillett Daniels; two daughters, Karen Dane of Manteo and Kimmy Hunt (Ken) of Greensboro; a son, Ken Daniels (Angie Brady-Daniels) of Manteo; son-in-law, David Farquharson of Gastonia; nine grandchildren, Whitney Dane (Ben), James Daniels (Lauren), Amanda Daniels, Courtney Daniels, Leigh-Anne Alexander (Jarkeevus), Will Farquharson, Daniel Farquharson, Halle Hunt, and Hannah Hunt; seven great-grandchildren, Jack, Cosmo, Hugh, Bennett, Serenity, Nevaeh, and Tra; and a brother, Amos “Tart” Daniels, Jr. of Portsmouth, VA.

Also surviving are Margaret’s children, Stephen Williams (Sherilyn) and Mark Williams; three grandchildren, Cary (Kendra), Bryce, and Shawn(Whitney); and two great-grandchildren, Lakelyn and Raelyn.

“Mr. Bill” was a fun-loving and caring father, grandfather and great-grandfather. His favorite moments in life were spent with family and close friends. He enjoyed gardening and fishing/boating. He loved his staff at Manteo Furniture and Appliance and developed a bond with each of them. He loved his community and would quickly lend a hand to those in need. We will always remember his teasing, laughter, hard-headedness and infinite wisdom.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Louise (Bubbles) Daniels Scholarship at Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church or to the General Fund at Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church.
