Nags Head – John Marvin Sasser, Jr., 90, passed away on May 29, 2020. He was born on May 28, 1930 to John Marvin & Mae Sasser in Rocky Mount, North Carolina. Besides his parents John was predeceased by his two sisters, Annie Lucy & Mae Joyner.
John graduated from Benvenue High School where he met the love of his life and his wife of 72 years, Betsy Mincher Sasser. He was a young apprentice carpenter for Joyner contracting in Rocky Mount. Eight years later he got the opportunity to move his young family to Maryland where he worked as a Foreman for Lormack Corporation. Six years later he purchased Lormack Corporation changing its name to Quad Con Associates.
He enjoyed renovating and building all throughout the Washington DC area on Federal Government projects. In 1985 he along with his longtime business partner started Twi Oil Company, which drilled oil & gas wells. Upon retirement John and his wife Betsy moved back to North Carolina to the Outer Banks.
John was always involved in his community. He was a Deacon & Elder in his church and also taught Sunday School. He was known for his cooking expertise, especially steaks & his seafood bisque. His passion was traveling & all different types of sports. He not only played but was the coach for many of his children’s teams.
John is survived by his wife, Betsy of Nags Head North Carolina, his daughter, Patrice Curtiss (Kevin) of Smith Mountain Lake VA, Reba Sasser of Fulton Maryland, son John Sasser of Fulton Maryland & his daughter, Phyllis Fick of Nags Head North Carolina. John is also survived by 7 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
