Frances Marion Cowell Hodge, age 91, of Heron Court, Elizabeth City, NC, passed away on Tuesday, September 1, 2020, at her residence. She was born in Elizabeth City on July 26, 1929 to the late Edward Duke Cowell and Millicent Charles Grice Cowell.
While most people hope to find a special mate to share their lives, Fran was fortunate to have two great loves: the late Joseph C. Guillette and the late Bryon F. Hodge. She was also preceded in death by her grandson, Joseph Everett.
Fran is survived by her four much loved children, Christie Goldman (Jay), Mike Guillette (Bea), Marty Guillette (Vanessa), and Jane Chappell (Rick); nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one brother, Edward Cowell (Carol); a sister, Betty Medlock; and many other beloved family members who will mourn her absence.
Fran retired after many years working as a Civil Service bookkeeper at the Naval Shipyard. As her sons were growing up, she and Joe were very involved with the Boy Scouts of America. Until recent poor health, she was an active member in the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Ladies’ Auxiliary #3204, where she could be counted on to serve on various committees and working on many projects.
An outdoor memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 31, 2020 at All Saints Episcopal Church, 40 Pintail Trail, Southern Shores, NC. The Rev. Cindy Simpson, Rector will officiate. Twiford Funeral Home, 405 East Church Street, Elizabeth City, NC is assisting the Hodge family.
