Doris Sawyer Phelps, 87, of Manteo, NC passed peacefully at home on Wednesday, December 9, 2020.
Mrs. Phelps was preceded in death by her husband, Parker Lee Phelps; grandson, Talmadge Wayne Jones; daughter, Judith Ann West; four brothers and two sisters.
She is survived by her daughter, Jeanne Leigh Phelps of Kinston; son, James Larry Phelps of Manteo; two granddaughters, Jeannie Light (David) of Wanchese and Amy Elkins (Bud) of Wanchese; two great-grandchildren, David W. Light and Logan Grace Elkins both of Wanchese; two siblings, Nell Lee (Allan) of Jacksonville and Roger Sawyer of Plymouth; and many nieces and nephews.
A funeral will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, December 12, 2020, at Wanchese Assembly of God. Entombment at Roanoke Island Memorial Gardens will be private. Viewing will be held Friday evening at Twiford Colony Chapel, Manteo from 6:00 pm until 7:30 pm.
