No serious injuries after crash on U.S. 158 knocks out power in central Currituck County

No serious injuries were reported following a two-vehicle crash on U.S. 158 that knocked out power to parts of central Currituck County Wednesday afternoon.

The wreck happened around 4:15 p.m. in the 4300 block of Caratoke Highway in Barco.

According to the Currituck County Sherrif’s Office, a truck traveling eastbound on U.S. 158 ran off the road and struck a power pole with such force that it was thrown into the roadway and hit another vehicle in the windshield.

834 customers of Dominion Power in Barco, Coinjock and Waterlily lost electricity for about 90 minutes, while traffic on the highway was slowed in both directions near Currituck High School.
