No one was injured after a tractor-trailer ran off U.S. 158 north of Grandy on New Year’s morning, narrowly missing a massive oak tree and a house before colliding with several vehicles parked in the yard.

The crash happened around 8:40 a.m. Friday in the 5900 block of Caratoke Highway, when the eastbound truck appeared to miss a slight curve and ran off the highway.

Lower Currituck Volunteer Fire Department Chief Vernon Hart said the rig ran between the tree and a one-story, brick ranch-style house. It then slammed into several vehicles before coming to rest against a power pole.

Power was knocked out to multiple customers in the vicinity of the crash, and traffic was down to one lane eastbound on U.S. 158.
