No green eggs and ham! Latest tropical storm is Sam I am

I am Sam. I am Sam. Sam I am. That Sam-I-Am! That Sam-I-Am! I do not like hurricanes, Sam-I-Am!

I have become the 18th named tropical cyclone of the 2021 Atlantic hurricane season, but it doesn’t look like I’ll be bringing green eggs and ham…I mean rain and wind…to the Outer Banks.

I would not like them here or there.

OK, maybe I’ll bring some waves to our beaches starting late next weekend.

I started as a tropical wave that moved off the coast of Africa earlier this week, and have been slowly getting my act together in the fare eastern Atlantic.

The National Hurricane Center upgraded me to a tropical depression Wednesday evening, and has me eventually becoming the fourth major hurricane of the year.

Most forecast models currently have me taking a slow route across the Atlantic, and then turning before I get close to the Lesser Antilles around this time next week.

I may take a trip close to Bermuda in about 10 to 14 days, but its still too early to know exactly where I’ll end up around the second week of October.

This is the first time a tropical cyclone in the Atlantic has been named Sam. Three storms in the Pacific have previously had my name, the most recent in 2018 that hit the Philippines and Vietnam.

My pals, Peter and Rose, have all lost their steam way out at sea and are expected to dissipate by the weekend. The remnants of Odette continue to circle around in the northern Atlantic.

Behind me, there is another wave forecast to move south of Cape Verde off the Africa coast that could get tropical next week.

Thank you! Thank you, Sam I am.
