The eleventh tropical cyclone of 2020 has formed in the Atlantic Ocean. And while the system is forecast to eventually become Tropical Storm Josephine, it will likely be no threat to land.
An area of low pressure the National Hurricane Center has been monitoring over the tropical Atlantic developed a less-elongated circulation with a well-defined center, and met the criteria for a tropical cyclone at 5 p.m. Wednesday.
Model data indicates that the system will face less than ideal conditions for serious development by the end of the week.
It could eventually lose tropical characteristics by the weekend as it turns towards the north and moves towards the central Atlantic Ocean.
