The National Weather Service Newport/Morehead City office is hosting hurricane community forums in areas hit hard by tropical cyclones, including the Outer Banks.

The meetings include a presentation from a meteorologist on hurricanes and their impacts on Eastern North Carolina.

Topics for discussion include why you should never just focus on just the category of the storm, what the hurricane path track means and the various impacts tropical cyclones can bring.

The forum also covers the hurricane outlook for the year while emphasizing that it only takes one storm to make an impact on your life.

The community forums will take place on Hatteras Island for the southern Outer Banks, the northern Outer Banks, New Bern, Oriental and Holly Ridge.

The Holly Ridge forum will take place May 23 from 6-8 p.m. and will be broadcast on Facebook Live.

Dates and locations for the remainders of the forums have not yet been announced.
