The Nags Head Police Department is asking the public to help identify a pair of trucks spotted racing on the beach on Thursday.

Details about the location and time of the incident were not included in the post on the department’s Facebook page, but it appears in one photo it was just north of Jennette’s Pier at Whalebone Junction.

Tips can be phoned into the department office at 252-441-6386 or Dare Central Communications at 252-473-3444 after hours.

Beach driving is allowed along the oceanfront of Nags Head and Kill Devil Hills with town-issued permits during the off-season. The speed limit is 15 mph.

A separate National Park Service permit is required to drive on the beaches of Cape Hatteras National Seashore year-round.

Permits are not required to drive on the beaches of Currituck County from Corolla to the state line.
