Daniel Tillett captured lightning striking to the west of Wanchese Marina while Beach 104’s Jody O’Donnell was there for a remote broadcast Wednesday afternoon.

A strong thunderstorm with frequent lightning, heavy rain and gusty winds rolled formed over Roanoke Island, then slowly expanded and moved south along the Outer Banks.

A peak wind gust of 56 mph was recorded by Brendan Strum at Pirates Cove. WxFlow sensors in the Croatan Sound recorded 43 knot gusts several times, and 34 knot gusts was reported from Coast Guard Station Oregon Inlet.
