Most National Park Service facilities open during Thanksgiving week

Most National Park Service facilities on the Outer Banks are open during Thanksgiving week, including the visitor center at Wright Brothers National Memorial which is open on Thanksgiving Day.

This is the final week of the 2021 camping season at Cape Point and Frisco campgrounds in Cape Hatteras National Seashore. The Oregon Inlet and Ocracoke campgrounds offer year round camping opportunities. Reservations and payments for camp sites must be made online at www.recreation.gov.

Details about the 118th anniversary celebration of the Wright Brothers first flight at Big Kill Devil Hill on December 17 will be announced in the coming days.

Hours and programs at popular park facilities (Nov. 22-28):
  • The grounds are open 24 hours a day.
  • Bodie Island Park Store open daily from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 1:45 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
  • Museum of the Sea (across from Cape Hatteras Lighthouse) open Nov. 25-28 from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
  • Hatteras Island Park Store open daily from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Ocracoke Island Discovery Center open from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Nov. 26-28
  • Base of Ocracoke Lighthouse open from 1-3 p.m. on Nov. 26-28
  • Bonner Bridge Pier open 24 hours a day.
  • Most beaches are open for permitted night driving (24 hours a day). Off-road vehicle permits must be purchased online. Visit go.nps.gov/beachaccess for beach access updates.

  • Educational programs scheduled at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Nov. 27-28.
  • The park and the park’s National Historic Landmark visitor center are open daily, including Thanksgiving Day, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
