Melissa Dickerson named interim Town Manager of Manteo

The Town of Manteo Board of Commissioners have appointed current Town Planner Melissa Dickerson as interim town manager at their workshop meeting on Wednesday.

“Throughout her career, Mrs. Dickerson has been and continues to be a dedicated public servant,” the town said in a news release Thursday. “She contributes greatly in any way that supports the community in order for it to continue to grow and succeed.”

She will replace James Ayers who announced in October he would be leaving the position at the end of the December after two years in the position.

Dickerson has been Manteo Town Planner since 2017. Prior to that she served as the state director for U.S. Senator Kay Hagan of North Carolina, a research assistant for the North Carolina General Assembly, and district liaison for Congressman Brad Miller.

She graduated from Manteo High School and has a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Dickerson is also a graduate of the Municipal and County Administration program of the UNC School of Government and is a member of the
International City/County Management Association.
