Mary Meads Higgins Ivey, age 87, of Elizabeth City, NC died Thursday, July 15, 2021 at Elizabeth City Health and Rehabilitation.
She was born August 26, 1933 to the late James Moody Meads and Sadie Whedbee Meads and was the widow of Robert Ivey and Ralph Marshall Higgins, Sr. She was a spinner at the cotton mill, a devoted member of Symons Creek Tabernacle and a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother.
She is survived by her sons, Wesley Higgins (Becky) and Dwight Higgins; her daughter, Mary Ellen Lassiter (Danny) all of Elizabeth City; two sisters, Dorothy Todd and Nell Lacy; a brother, Grant Meads; seven grandchildren and seventeen great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Ralph Marshall Higgins, Jr.; a sister, Gertie Dail; and brothers, J. B. Meads, Duty Meads and Joseph Meads.
A funeral service will be held Tuesday, July 20, 2021 at 11:00 am at Symons Creek Tabernacle officiated by the Rev. Davin Phillips and assisted by Gene Chory. The family will receive family and friends at the church after the service. Burial will be in West Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
