Powells Point – Mary Dowdy Waterfield died peacefully July 2, 2021 at her new home in Powells Point, NC, after a brief illness. “Mary Lee” as she was best known, was born September 17, 1945. She was predeceased by her parents, Richard Norris and Elsie Mae Dowdy of Currituck, NC. Mary has also joyfully reunited with her son, Mitchell Waterfield who passed away last year, and her beloved husband, Kenny Waterfield.

Mary Lee was a devoted Christian and life-long member of Powells Point Baptist Church. There, she served actively in several capacities including teaching in the Sunday school, assisting in the church nursery, and singing in the choir. Mary Lee served the public for many years as the Aydlett Post Office Postmaster. She could also be recognized working diligently in several post offices throughout the Outer Banks and surrounding counties.

Most important to Mary was being a great mom and a proud grandmother who was the family’s rock. Mary Lee extended her sweet Christian love and fellowship to each and everyone she met. She used her life to proclaim her deep love of the Lord.

Mary Lee Waterfield is survived by her four children Ken, Kim, Mary Kay and Karen and her three grandchildren Haley, Sarah, and William all of Powells Point, NC as well as her church family.
A graveside celebration of Mary Lee’s life will be held at 4 pm, Sunday, July 11,2021 at the Powells Point Baptist Church Cemetery. The Rev. Ronnie Wyatt will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Mary’s memory may be made to Albemarle Home Health and Hospice.
