Martha Edwards Allen passed away on July 8, 2022. The daughter of the late James and Fannie Mae Edwards, she was the widow of Robert Riddick Allen II.
Born on November 23, 1925, Mrs. Allen was a resident of Manteo, N.C. She grew up in Driver, Virginia, where she has strong connections to the community. Mrs. Allen was a member of the Chuckatuck High School Class of 1942 and a graduate of Westhampton College, University of Richmond. She was a member of Mount Olivet Methodist Church in Manteo, N.C.
Survivors include her daughter, Patricia Allen Lake and husband Gary of Manteo, NC; her son Robert Riddick Allen and his cat Hawthorne of New York, NY; her daughter Fran Allen Bailey, and husband Paul of Raleigh, NC; and her daughter Annah Allen Petty and husband Dale, of Manteo, NC. Her grandchildren include James Lake and his wife Elisa; of Atlanta, GA: Martha Daniels, of Kitty Hawk, NC: Dru Bailey and wife Meghan of Raleigh, NC: Allen Bailey and his fiancé Kristina Mutio, of Raleigh, NC; and Bailey Petty of Manteo, NC. And among her greatest joys were her great-grandchildren: MacKenzie and Garrett Daniels: and Hayden, Brendon, and Easton Lake. Her sister-in-law Barbara Allen was a devoted friend and provided tremendous help, love and comfort over the years.
The graveside service will be held at 2:00 pm on July 10, 2022, at Manteo Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Mrs. Allen’s home following the service.
