Mark Owens of Kitty Hawk, NC was 51 years young when he lost his battle to cancer on April 13, 2021 in Barco, NC. Born in Virginia Beach, VA on March 7, 1970, he was the son of the late David and Evelyn Owens.
He graduated from First Colonial High School in 1988. Mark was a hard-working carpet installer, who never met a stranger. A free-spirited gentle soul, who was always quick with a joke. Mark loved fishing on any pier or boat, spelunking in West Virginia, hunting, and most of all he loved the ocean. Driving on the beaches of the Outer Banks was a passion of his. Mark always enjoyed the excitement of a good storm. He leaves behind lifelong friends, extended family in North Carolina and beloved dog Willie.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, David and Margaret Owens; maternal grandparents, Zadoke and Anne Melson; brother, Brian Owens; and cherished dog, Whiskey.
Mark is survived by his sister Sharon Carroll of Nags Head, NC; brother, Todd Owens (Kim) of Jarvisburg, NC; sister-in-law, Beth Owens of Virginia Beach, VA; nieces, Brittney Smrdel and Jessica Ballance of North Carolina and Ashley Mclaughlin, Lauren Owens, and Grace Owens of Virginia Beach, VA; and nephew, Brian Owens of Virginia Beach, VA.
A celebration of Mark’s life will be held at the Currituck Sound Park (8955 Caratoke Hwy, Point Harbor, NC 27964) on May 16, 2021 at 3:30 pm. Donations may be made to the Corolla Wild Horse Fund, https://www.corollawildhorses.com/.
