Marjorie Lacy Ballance Jester, age 79, of Elizabeth City, NC died on Monday, March 27, 2023 at Waterbrooke Assisted Living. Born in Pasquotank County, NC on October 18, 1943 to the late Calvin and Margaret Reams Lacy, she was the widow of both James Wilson Ballance, Sr. and Denver Alton Jester, Sr. A member of Ramoth Gilead Baptist Church, she loved singing and was a member of the choir. She worked at the Cotton Mill as a Winder until her retirement.
She is survived by three daughters, Melinda Ford (Jeff), and Lisa Key (Richard) both of Elizabeth City, NC and Brenda Inge (Curtis) of Grandy, NC; a son, James Ballance, Jr. (Kim) of Elizabeth City, NC; her stepchildren, Kendal Owens (Pete), Sharon Russell (Warren), and Denver Jester, Jr. (Lana); two sisters, Helen Wagner and Mildred Lacy; two brothers, Jimmy Lacy and Calvin Lacy; eight grandchildren; and eleven great-grandchildren. In addition to her two husbands, she was predeceased by two sisters, Evelyn Arsenault and Ellen Hallock.
A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, March 31, 2023 at West Lawn Cemetery with the Rev. Ken Littleton officiating. A visitation will be held on Thursday evening from 6:00 – 7:30 p.m. at Twiford Memorial Chapel.
