Margaret Edna Leake Smith departed this life on Thursday, April 8, 2021 at the age of 86 in Lakeland, Florida. She was born on November 15, 1934 in Lonaconing, Maryland and was the faithful wife of the late Rev. R.D. Smith, Sr.
Margaret graduated from the Lonaconing High School in 1952 and was married in December of the same year. She assisted her husband in their pastoral duties by teaching the Adult Sunday School Class, helping with VBS, playing the piano, and much more.
Margaret was the daughter of the late Thomas Sidney Leake and the late Jean Fillins Steele Leake. She was preceded in death by two sisters; Ruth Yost and Louise Younkin.
Margaret was referred to as “Meme” by her immediate family. She is lovingly remembered by her only child, Robert D. Smith, Jr. and his wife, Amanda, of Lakeland, Florida, two grandchildren, Rebecca Merskin (Elliott) of Littleton, Colorado and Robert D. Smith, III (Amy) of Lakeland, Florida; four beautiful great-grandchildren, Ella Smith, Emma Merskin, Asher Merskin, and Claire Smith. She is also survived by her only brother, Rev. James S. Leake (Becky) of Gibsonia, Pennsylvania, as well as nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held Friday, April 16, 2021 from 9 AM to 11 AM at the Hancock Assembly of God with the Commencement Service immediately following at 11 AM. The Committal will be held at the end of the service. Interment will be at the Tonoloway Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery. We request that you practice social distancing and wear your face coverings, as this is the guidelines of the church. Livestreaming will be available for everyone to view the Commencement Service. Arrangements were entrusted to the Grove Funeral Home, in Hancock, Maryland.
