The Democratic Women of North Carolina (DWNC) have honored Manteo resident Laura Allendorf with a 2022 STAR Award.

Allendorf received this award for her “outstanding dedication, tireless work, and loyal commitment in support of the values and principles of the Democratic Party, its causes, and candidates.” It was presented at the DWNC’s 62nd Annual State Convention, September 24-25, in Greensboro, NC.

Allendorf serves as Vice-Chair of the Manteo Precinct, is the Secretary of the Democratic Women of Dare, and is active in the Dare County Democratic Party.

“Since moving to Manteo three years ago, Laura Allendorf has quickly demonstrated her skills as a political activist and organizer in Dare County,” said Susan Harman-Scott, President of the Democratic Women of Dare. “She has led our chapter’s many community service projects, energized our communications efforts, and was instrumental in helping organize two recent rallies in support of reproductive rights. The Democratic Women of Dare was delighted to nominate her for the 2022 STAR Award.”

Allendorf thanked her chapter for their nomination. “Being recognized by my peers is the highest honor,” she said.

Allendorf had a long career in Washington, DC, advocating for federal healthcare policies benefiting primary care physicians and their patients. She has a bachelors degree in government from Georgetown University and a master’s in public administration from George Washington University.

The Democratic Women of Dare helps elect Democratic candidates, especially women, to public office at the local, state, and national levels; and promotes and supports legislation that will bring economic equality to women.
