In order to raise funds for an upcoming trip, senior students of Manteo High School’s AVID Program are washing cars for free and taking donations at the Sports Club in Nags Head and the First National Bank in Manteo on Saturday, January 14 from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
In groups of seven with a chaperone per group, students will compete in an Amazing Race style competition over two days that will include shopping and planning a meal, using public transportation to navigate the city of Norfolk, while exposing them to culture. Students will complete tasks at each cultural location.
The money will pay for a bus driver to and from Manteo, the gas for the bus, the public transportation passes, food money for meal preparation, and lodging for two nights. This will be most of these students’ first time away from our small island chain.
The AVID Program appreciates your willingness to provide a new opportunity for these first generation college bound students.
