Road and bridge construction projects in the area are on hold for the Easter holiday, and all lanes have reopened to traffic until Tuesday.
Daytime lane closures along the Marc Basnight Bridge to allow for work to be finished on and under the new bridge over Oregon Inlet have been suspended through next week.
Travelers on U.S. 158 across the J.P. Knapp Bridge should be alert to unmarked pavement on the span over the Coinjock Cut of the Albemarle and Chesapeake Canal.
On the westbound side, the road deck remains uneven because the new surface has been poured on the inside lane while the outside lane has yet to be completed.
Traffic control devices were removed Thursday evening, and both lanes have been reopened for traffic for the weekend. That project is expected to be finished next month.
The repaving of N.C. 168 from Currituck to Moyock has been proceeding on schedule, with just final lane markings and shoulder grading remaining on Caratoke Highway and connecting roads.
But there is no word yet on when work will take place on the crumbling U.S. 158 road surface between Barco and Point Harbor.
The N.C. Department of Transportation has posted alerts on variable message signs to motorcyclists about the loose gravel from the friction course that is falling apart, piling up alongside the road.
