Let’s Go! N.C. 12 speed limits have increased again

When you’re driving away with the dim lights on along parts of N.C. 12 starting this evening, you’ll notice it won’t be taking as long on your clock machine.

That’s because N.C. Department of Transportation crews were out on Monday, conduting their semi-annual change out of speed limit signs in the Hatteras Island villages and along sections of the two-lane road in Southern Shores, Duck and Corolla.

Seasonal speed limits are instituted between May 15 and September 15 due to the amount of pedestrians and extra traffic on the two-lane road.

In the towns and villages, that means 35 mph during the peak travel season instead of 45 mph. This past summer, a drop from 55 to 45 was placed between Avon and Buxton and between Frisco and Hatteras village.
