Kill Devil Hills woman among three charged in Elizabeth City drug bust

Three people face drug-related and other charges, including a woman from Kill Devil Hills, following a drug bust Friday night at an Elizabeth City motel.

Officers and agents from eight local and state agencies participating in the Project Safe Neighborhood campaign combating violent and drug-related crimes in the region executed a search warrantat The Days Inn on South Hughes Boulevard.

Carly Denice Pruitt, 31, of Kill Devil Hills was charged with possession of marijuana, drug paraphernalia and maintaining a dwelling for the purpose of controlled substance activity. Secured bond was set at $5,000 and Pruitt was booked into the Albemarle District Jail.

Maurice Toxey, 35, of Elizabeth City, was charged with possession of marijuana, drug paraphernalia and maintaining a dwelling for the purpose of controlled substance activity. He was being held in lieu of $35,000 bond.

Gideon Griffin Jr., 34, of Elizabeth City, was charged with felony possession of cocaine, failure to appear warrant for felony possession of cocaine, and civil contempt child support warrant. Bond was set at $32,000.

During the overall operation on Friday, 12 citations were issued ranging from drug paraphernalia, driving while license revoked and vehicle mechanical violation to possesion of less than 1/2 ounce marijuana, expired and revoked registrations, and vehicle inspection and child restraint violations.

According to an Elizabeth City Police Department press release, the operation was part of Project Safe Neighborhoods, a program bringing together all levels of law enforcement and the communities they serve to reduce violent crime and make our neighborhoods safer for everyone.

The Elizabeth City Police Department, Pasquotank County Sheriff’s Office, Gates County Sheriff’s Office, Perquimans County Sheriff’s Office, Dare County Sheriff’s Office, Camden County Sheriff’s Office, Currituck County Sheriff Office, Edenton Police Department and the State Bureau of Investigation participated in the operation.
