Those with information on the whereabouts of Mickel Matthew Mobley, 41, should contact the Kill Devil Hills Police Department or the Dare Community Crime Line. [Submitted/KDH Police Dept.]

The Kill Devil Hills Police Department are currently seeking the public’s help in locating a suspect involved in a stolen vehicle chase on Sunday, August 21, 2022.

At approximately 10:30 a.m. Kill Devil Hills officers engaged a silver 2009 Mercedes Benz in a pursuit after attempting to stop the vehicle for displaying a stolen license plate and the vehicle itself possibly being stolen. The pursuit was terminated when officers determined the conditions to be unsafe to continue the pursuit.

Based on tips from concerned citizens to Kill Devil Hills investigators, the Mercedes was located at a vacant rental property in Poplar Branch, Currituck. The property owner was unaware of the Mercedes being on the property and fully cooperated with law enforcement to search the property and seize the vehicle.

Through further investigation, the driver of the Mercedes during the pursuit was identified as Mickel Matthew Mobley, 41 of Suffolk, Virginia.

Kill Devil Hills detectives have obtained warrants for Mr. Mobley and anyone with information concerning the whereabouts of Mr. Mobley is encouraged to call the Kill Devil Hills Police Department at (252) 449-5337, the Dare Community Crime Line at (252) 473-3111 or visit the Crime Line tip line at darecommunitycrimeline.org.

Mr. Mobley has been charged with Felony Speeding to Elude Arrest and Possession of Stolen Property. The investigation is ongoing and the status of the Mercedes (stolen, borrowed, unauthorized use) remains in question. Additional charges will be sought, if appropriate, as the investigation continues.

The Department would like to thank the Currituck County Sheriff’s Office for their considerable help in this matter.
