Kill Devil Hills Ocean Rescue wrapped up the summer season with a log of 700 incident responses, 25,000 preventative actions and more than 1 million visitors on town beaches.

It was the busiest summer to date for Kill Devil Hills lifeguards, ocean rescue officials said in a Facebook post Monday. And they did it all without a single COVID-19 case among the staff.

“We would like to thank our staff for their work ethic, due diligence and public service,” the post said. “With your help KDH beaches were a safe and fun environment for all (minus the jellyfish).”

As of last week, there are no lifeguards manning the beaches and Oct. 15 was the last day of roving patrols.

If you’re at the beach and need emergency assistance dial 9-1-1. Anyone who might be interested in working with ocean rescue next year can apply here.
