The Kill Devil Hills Board of Commissioners approved another extension through Thanksgiving weekend of allowances to restaurants for outdoor seating that has been in place due to the COVID-19 pandemic since summer 2020.

All indoor limits on in-person dining were lifted by Governor Roy Cooper in May. A few days later, Kill Devil Hills updated an emergency order that includes a provision that a review of allowed uses outside would take place before the end of September.

Kill Devil Hills’ ban on food trucks was reinstituted at the same time.

Another extension of the outdoor dining allowances was approved and an order signed by Mayor Ben Sproul on September 30, with a stipulation the KDH commissioners will review the measures on November 29.

Nags Head approved in May letting restaurants use their temporary measures and continue issuing required permits, such as for outdoor seating and tents in parking lots or elsewhere on property, through Thanksgiving weekend.
