Kaye Elizabeth Whitfield, 83, of Kitty Hawk, NC died Monday, February 15, 2021, at Peak Resources – Outer Banks.
Daughter of the late Elizabeth Smith Whitfield and George Ashley Whitfield, she was born in Norfolk, VA on July 16, 1937 and lived in North Carolina nearly all her life.
She attended Dr. W. T. Griggs School and was a 1955 graduate of Kitty Hawk High School and a 1959 graduate of East Carolina College. Kaye taught at Cape Hatteras High School for thirty years and after retirement returned home to Kitty Hawk and volunteered at KHES for twenty years.
She was a member of Poplar Branch Baptist Church and the Dare County Unit of Retired School Personnel.
Miss Whitfield is survived by her sister, Karolyn W. Quidley; nieces, Mary Quidley, Gracie Quidley, Susan Quidley, and Karol Quidley; a nephew, Willie Quidley; great-nieces and great-nephews, Lane Quidley, Beaman Hines, Jr., Annaleigh Hines, and Ashley Quidley; and many cousins.
A private burial was held in Austin Cemetery. Miss Whitfield requested that memorial donations be made to Albemarle Home Care and Hospice (408 Hastings Lane, Elizabeth City, NC 27909) or Dare Hospice (PO Box 669, Manteo, NC 27954).
