Julian Evans, of Grandy, NC, passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, August 22, 2022, at the age of 91. Julian served his country in the United States Coast Guard for a short time and spent long hours operating excavator machinery, but his passion was in his old workshop.
Beyond a single rigid door, there was a man in wrangler blue jeans, sanding down a table surrounded by a treasure trove of saws and nuts, bolts and screws, sanders, vices, chisels, and bar clamps; coils of wood shavings covered the floor. Surrounded in tiny particles of sawdust in the air with a deep, warm, earthy, and reassuring scent, was a craftsman, a laborer, an artist at work with his hands. Julian was a man of skill, hardworking and steady. He was kind, honest, generous of heart, with a spirit that loved deeply and was loved in return. Julian will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by three children, Julian Jr. (Laurie) Evans, Samuel (Denise) Evans, Carolyn
(Mark) O’Briant. He was a beloved Papaw to six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by beloved wife, Addie Evans, and his son, Daniel Evans. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 27, 2022, at Grandy Assembly of God with Pastor John Ogden officiating. A graveside committal will follow in the Poplar Branch Baptist Church Cemetery.
