Joyce B. Barnes

Joyce B. Barnes, 83, of Manteo, NC went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, March 24, 2021, at her home.

Born in Martin County on February 5, 1938, she was the daughter of the late Ruth Butler Brown Scoggins and Robert Benjamin Brown, Jr.

Joyce attended Columbia High School and was a member of Manteo Baptist Church. Besides being a homemaker and raising three children, she sometimes worked at the family business, A&B Carpet One, and other places on the Outer Banks (Davis’, Christmas Shop, Ship’s Wheel, Clara’s Seafood Grill).

You could frequently find her at TL’s or Darrell’s chatting and cutting up with customers and staff. She loved to be out and around friendly people. At home, she loved her Hallmark Channel and working on a good puzzle with her family and friends.

She is survived by two daughters, Cynthia Jo Barnes of Manteo, NC and Brenda B. Savage (Matthew) of Holly Springs, NC; one son, Jeffrey Barnes (Daniel Joy) of Raleigh, NC; two grandsons, Zackary and Brandon Savage; and one sister, Jean McClees (Ray) of Columbia, NC. She is also survived by her “daughter from another mother,” Jamie Norman, who she was blessed to have as her primary caregiver and honorary family member for the last 9 months.

In addition to her parents, Joyce was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Walter Barnes and her stepfather, Albert B. Scoggins.

A funeral will be held at 3:00 pm on Sunday, March 28, 2021, at Twiford Colony Chapel with Rev. Ken Simpson officiating. The family will receive friends and relatives for a viewing one hour prior to the service. Private burial will take place at Manteo Cemetery.
