Jarvis Seeley Smithson, age 83, of Camden, NC died on Saturday, September 10, 2022 at Sentara Albemarle Medical Center. Born in Camden County, NC on April 16, 1939 to the late Seeley Smithson and Clarinda Riggs Smithson, he was the loving husband of Ruth Smithson for sixty-five years. Jarvis retired from Ford Motor Company after more than twenty years of employment. A member of Geneva Baptist Church, he enjoyed NASCAR and professional football. An avid gardener and painter, he was a volunteer for his local rescue squad.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by five sons, Michael L. Smithson of Elizabeth City, NC, Craig Smithson (Janice) of Oxford, NC, Stephen M. Smithson of Winfall, NC, A. Wayne Smithson of Camden, NC, and Anthony Smithson (Dawn) of Elizabeth City, NC; and three sisters, Marjorie Roberts of Currituck, NC, , Grace Keeter of Camden, NC, and Dolly Batts of Beulaville, NC; eleven grandchildren; and sixteen great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by two sisters, Juanita Smithson Sawyer and Evelyn Smithson Reynolds, and a grandchild, Chase Smithson.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, September 16, 2022 at Twiford Memorial Chapel with the Rev. F. Joe Griffith officiating. The family will greet visitors immediately after the service at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Morgan Family Cemetery.
