Jack Thomas Sawyer, age 91, died Monday, August 23, 2021 at Waterbrooke of Elizabeth City after a long battle with Alzheimer’s .
He was born in Columbia, NC on February 8, 1930 to the late Thomas Milton Sawyer and Martha Walker Sawyer. Jack worked at Pell Paper Box for over thirty years along with Twiford Funeral Homes for over forty years as a maintenance supervisor and funeral assistant. He was an integral part of our Twiford extended family.
He is survived by a son, Covah Wayne Sawyer and his wife, Candice and her sons, Scott and Michael Lawrence; a sister-in-law, Shirley Sawyer; Bobbie Pierce; a grandson; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Mae S. White, his brothers, Scott O. Sawyer and Fred Sawyer, long-time companion, Mary Pierce, and a grandson.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 26, 2021 at West Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery with the Rev. Kevin Senn officiating. Memorial donations may be made to Emmanuel Baptist Church, 109 Chadburn Avenue, Elizabeth City, NC 27909.
