Visit Island Farm on Wednesday, August 17th beginning at 10:30 a.m. and celebrate the 14th birthday of the site’s beloved cow, Roxanna!

Shortly after Roxanna’s arrival to the Farm as a yearling in June of 2009, she was named “Roxanna” by a local preschool class. Roxanna, or “Roxie” for short, is an Etheridge family name; the Etheridge family were the original inhabitants of the Island Farm site. Roxie is a cross between a Jersey and Guernsey, both popular breeds of dairy cattle.

On her birthday, guests can expect to get up close and personal with Roxie and spoil her on her special day. Visitors will feed her treats such as cucumbers, watermelon and/or sweet potato and sing her, “Happy Birthday” while her and her feathered friends -the chickens – enjoy a cow-safe cake. Festivities are included with our $10 admission fee.

Island Farm is owned and operated by Outer Banks Conservationists, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization founded in 1980 to protect natural, cultural, and historic resources along North Carolina’s Outer Banks through education and conservation.
