Authorities reported flooding in Manteo, Colington, on Hatteras Island and in Kitty Hawk after high tide this morning.

Kitty Hawk Police said Moore Shore Road was flooded as of 9:30 a.m. and water was rising in low lying areas and sound side.

“Please be aware as the storm leaves the area, the flooding will continue,” police said. “Remain prepared and be cautious.”

In the Colington area, flooding was reported near Billy’s Seafood and several other areas. The waterfront in Manteo, too, was under water Tuesday morning.

The North Carolina Department of Transportation said N.C. 12 on Hatteras Island fared well, with no overwash and only a bit of sand blown on the thoroughfare, but also reported four inches or more of flooding sound side in several locations including Rodanthe/Waves/Salvo.

A mandatory evacuation remained in effect for Hatteras Island this morning.
