VIDEO: Introducing Z 92.3, ‘The Rock of the Outer Banks’

For those of you asking all week “what’s going on with 92.3 FM?” — we finally have the answer. As of noon today, the JAM Media Solutions radio station is switching to an all rock format. The new name? Z 92.3, “The Rock of the Outer Banks.”

The announcement follows a week of “stunting,” with the Nags Head, N.C. station playing Elvis all day one day, Frank Sinatra and the Beatles. That’s been followed by a familiar clock ticking sound, and then an iconic stomp/stomp/clap leading up to the switch.

That prompted questions from listeners, who tried to guess what was going on. Some predicted a switch to an oldie’s format, some said a return to classic rock and one predicted urban contemporary.

“My guess is Sam is flipping it to all lacrosse, all the time,” one listener commented on Facebook, referring to JAM’s news director, Sam Walker, who’s also a local sports announcer and lacrosse referee.

But the number one request we’ve had all week since we started stunting? A real rock station for the Outer Banks. And that’s exactly what we’re giving you.

The station will focus on rock hits from 1975 to 2015, including Alice in Chains, Pearl Jam, AC/DC, Metallica, Motley Crew, Def Leppard, Black Sabbath, Journey, Van Halen, Guns N’ Roses, Led Zeppelin, Green Day and more.

“You’ll hear the greatest rock songs ever recorded,” JAM Media Solutions Chief Operating Officer Steve Borneman said. “We are really excited to be offering this station to everyone here on the Outer Banks, we think you’ll love it!”

Listen to Z 92.3 on your radio, on your phone via Google Play or the Apple App Store or on your computer here. You can find us online here and on Facebook and Instagram, too.
