Intersection of East New Bern Street, Fifth Street to Virginia Dare Trail closed on Thursday in KDH

The Town of Kill Devil Hills will have periodic road closures today, June 9, 2022, from the intersection of East New Bern Street and Fifth Street to Virginia Dare Trail for Weeks Construction to move beach nourishment equipment and construction material to and from the staging area at the Fifth Street Beach Access. This section of road will be closed several times throughout the day, as needed, to move the large equipment and other material.

The portion of road is scheduled to re-open by the end of the day on June 9th. Please follow any detour instructions from flaggers.

The Town received inquiries from members of the public about previous closures/detours in this area, and in following up with the project contractors, it was determined that closures had occurred without proper notice or approval from Town officials. The Town and Weeks Construction apologize for any inconveniences and disruptions the previous closures may have caused. Please be assured Town Staff and the construction company will be working to prevent this type of issue from occurring again. If any additional closures are necessary, the Town will work to notify the public in advance.

Just a reminder, the Fifth Street Beach Access is closed and will remain closed during the construction of the southern portion of the project. There will be limited pedestrian access depending on when equipment is being mobilized in the access. At this time, there is no set date of the access re-opening.

Closures associated with the beach nourishment project are done to ensure the safety of the public. Thank you for your patience and understanding throughout this process. Should you have any questions, please contact the Town Hall, at 252-449-5300.
