UPDATED: Hyde County man’s death while duck hunting was an accident

State investigators said that an unfortunate accident while duck hunting with family caused the death of a Hyde County man Monday.

Brandon Marshall of Englehard was fatally wounded in the leg at a waterfowl impoundment while hunting with his son. His brother was in a blind nearby and rushed to his aid.

First responders arrived on scene shortly after a 911 call was made around 2:30 p.m., and commenced lifesaving efforts until Hyde County EMS arrived. He died enroute to the hospital.

“Marshall was a very experienced hunter and shared a passion for hunting with his family, friends and others by guiding hunts and mentoring others with an interest in outdoor recreation,” said N.C. Wildlife Law Enforcement Sgt. Daniel Kennedy.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the family as they try to make sense of this accident,” Kennedy said.
