Feline Hope needs support in mission to help Outer Banks cats

Since 1995, the all-volunteer staff at Feline Hope has provided loving care for homeless cats around the Outer Banks.

Although versions of the non-profit have been operating for 23 years, Feline Hope Cat Rescue has been at its current Kitty Hawk facility, named “the Sanctuary,” since 1999.

In addition to the rescue, Feline Hope helps organize and support local trap-neuter-return, low cost spay and neuter assistance and emergency medical assistance. TNR involves trapping feral cats, neutering, and vaccinating them, and then returning them to where they were found. The goal is to stop the over population of animals in the area.

Many of the rescue’s kittens are acquired during TNR while they are young enough to tame easily. Volunteers of Feline Hope keep those kittens in their homes until they are united with their forever families.

Most of the rescue’s adoptions are arranged through their Facebook page, but some of the cats have also been featured in adopt-a-thons at businesses like PetSmart and Holistic Pet Shop.

Since the pandemic began back in March, those adopt-a-thons have been stopped., making it harder to get these wonderful kitties’ homes.

Dee Ann Baum – Executive Director expressed the major impact of the Covid Pandemic effect on their organization.

Like other nonprofits, Feline Hope has seen a drop in funding.

“Since we are solely funded through our fundraising, grants and donations, more than ever we are in need of our community support,” said Executive Director Dee Ann Baum.

In order to continue taking care of the older and not adoptable cats at the Sanctuary, and continue low-cost spay and neuter clinics and TNR programs, Feline Hope is in dire need of donations.

To adopt a cat or donate to Feline Hope, visit the group’s Facebook page or donate directly on their website.
