Dare LWV to host the Dare Minority Coalition as first “Hot Topics” session

The Dare League of Women Voters will host “Hot Topic” sessions beginning November 20. Our first guest speaker is George Carver, Executive Director of the Dare Minority Coalition, Inc., a tax-exempt organization founded in November 2018.

Normally held as luncheons, our “Hot Topics” sessions will be held via ZOOM until Covid is no longer a threat. The audience will have an opportunity to ask questions of Mr. Carver via ZOOM.

LWV members and the public are invited to join the program on Friday, November 20 at 1 p.m.

To register, email Fran Kapinos, League co-president, at fkapinos@aol.com and she will send you a ZOOM link.

This past summer, the Dare Minority Coalition played a lead role in organizing the widely attended rally held in Manteo to support equal justice and the Black Lives Matter movement. The Coalition focuses on assisting low- and moderate-income families in meeting their housing needs. The organization also provides re-entry assistance for citizens leaving incarceration, including some released due to mandatory reduction of institutional capacity resulting from the COVID pandemic.

According to Mr. Carver, “Through our outreach programs we help promote the physical and mental wellbeing of the community.”

The League of Women Voters is a non-partisan political organization that encourages the informed and active participation of citizens in government and influences public policy through education and advocacy.

Membership is open to both men and women, and students are encouraged to join. For further information visit our website www.lwvdarenc.org
