Heat advisory in effect for most of eastern North Carolina Friday, low to moderate risk of thunderstorms

[National Weather Service]

A dangerous combination of heat and humidity is in the forecast today across much of the coastal plain of Eastern North Carolina, according to an update from the National Weather Service (NOAA) Newport/Morehead City.

The combination of high temps in the mid to upper 90s with high humidity will produce dangerous heat index values of 102-107 degrees this afternoon.

In addition, there is a slight chance for possible severe weather from 6 p.m. to 2 a.m. later this evening.

The NOAA notes that confidence in thunderstorms developing this evening is low to moderate, but where, and if, thunderstorms develop, they could become severe.
