Head-on crash involving dump truck, SUV blocks U.S. 158 in Nags Head for two hours

A crash involving a dump truck and SUV shut down U.S. 158 in uptown Nags Head for more than two hours Thursday morning.

The wreck happened around 9:20 a.m. near the intersection of South Virginia Dare Trail and Barnes Street.

The driver of the SUV is a 63-year-old man from Nags Head, who was transported to The Outer Banks Hospital for treatment. The driver of the dump tuck was a 51-year-old man from Kitty Hawk.

The cause of the crash, and whether any charges will be filed, are still under investigation by the Nags Head Police Department.
