Hatteras and Ocracoke islands will be on generator power Thursday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., as crews switch over power to the new lines bypassing the Jug Handle Bridge northern construction zone.

A 30-minute outage in Rodanthe, Waves, Salvo and Avon will take place at 8 a.m. Thursday, and then for five minutes at 2 p.m. to allow for switchovers.

Everyone on Hatteras and Ocracoke islands are asked to conserve electricity while the generators are being used.
