Good Friday means changes to this week’s trash schedules on the Outer Banks

Good Friday is observed by North Carolina state government, which therefore means it is also a local government holiday for counties, cities and towns and offices will be closed this Friday.

That also means changes to this week’s trash collection operations along the Outer Banks:

Dare County unincorporated areas and Kitty Hawk

Dare County Public Works, which provides trash collection for the unincorporated areas of the county as well as the Town of Kitty Hawk, has announced a revised collection schedule in observance of the Good Friday holiday on April 2, 2021.

Residential trash collection for the week of March 29 through April 2 will take place as follows:  

Monday, March 29 – Kitty Hawk, Colington, Buxton, Frisco and Hatteras

Tuesday, March 30 – Manteo, Wanchese, East Lake, Stumpy Point, Manns Harbor, Rodanthe, Waves, Salvo and Avon

Wednesday, March 31 – Kitty Hawk, Colington, Buxton, Frisco and Hatteras

Thursday, April 1 ‐ Manteo, Wanchese, East Lake, Stumpy Point, Manns Harbor, Rodanthe, Waves, Salvo and Avon

Friday, April 2 – CLOSED. NO TRASH COLLECTION.

Commercial dumpsters will be picked up on Monday, March 29 and Thursday, April 1.

The Dare County C&D Landfill, Buxton Transfer Station and Manteo Recycle Yard will be closed on Friday, April 2, 2021, in observance of Good Friday.  

In addition, all Dare County offices will be closed on Friday, April 2, 2021, in observance of Good Friday. Dare County offices will reopen at 8:30 a.m. on Monday April 5, 2021. For more information, visit www.DareNC.com.

Due to the Easter holiday, there are changes to our trash collection and office schedules.

  • Trash on the residential blue route will be collected on Saturday April 3, 2021, instead of on Friday, April 2, 2021.
  • On the commercial route there will be no collection on Friday, April 2, 2021; however, service will resume on Saturday April 3, 2021.
  • The Bulk/Brush Yard will be closed Thursday, April 1, 2021; and re-open on Saturday, April 3, 2021.
  • The green and red routes will be collected on their regular schedules.

Town administrative offices will be closed for the holiday. Emergency services such as police and fire will continue to operate.
