Get ready for another round of big surf, overwash potential this weekend

Surf conditions were up to head-high, with some taller sets but a lot of texture due to a side-shore wind on Friday off Rodanthe. [OBXSurfInfo.com image]

The nor’easter that rolled through on Wednesday has parked itself off New England, and is helping bring more big surf and the potential for ocean overwash along the Outer Banks through the weekend.

The National Weather Service has issued a coastal flood advisory and high surf advisory for the Outer Banks beginning Saturday at 2 a.m.

Breaking waves of 8 to 12 feet are expected to last into early next week, and could cause erosion and overwash issues from Carova to Buxton.

The four-wheel drive beaches north of Corolla and N.C. 12 on Pea Island between Oregon Inlet and Rodanthe could become impassible around high tide on Saturday around 5 a.m. and 5 p.m.

Overwash will also be possible at the trouble spots around Kinnakeet Shores in Avon and at the motels in Buxton.
